Technical activities for ITS National Plan have started
On the last 20th of April, at TTS Italia, in Rome, was held the meeting among Mr. Massimiliano Zazza, Chairman of the Technical Scientific Committee of TTS Italia, the coordinators of the Work Teams and Universities involved in the Technical-Scientific activities for the 2010 divided in 4 macro areas: criteria for efficiency and effectiveness for road transport and the integration of the information on traffic; continuity of ITS services for the management of traffic and goods; ITS and safety; integration vehicle-infrastructure. The aim of the meeting was to plan the next steps to draw a document for the realization of an Italian ITS Action Plan. Actually, the Directive on ITS imposes on each Member State the redaction of a National Action Plan.

Started the training course on ITS organized by Politecnico of Turin with TTS Italia
It Started on the last 12th of April the innovative training course on ITS organized by the Department for Transport of the Politecnico of Turin, TTS Italia ordinary member, in collaboration with TTS Italia. The course will continue for the next three months by distance thanks to a multimodal and interactive on line tool developed by the Politecnico with the support of the Italian Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport. The course is based on several on line lessons with sequential levels that the user will be able to manage as he prefers. However, the user has to pass each level to access the next one. The course will end on the 15th of July with the issue of the certificates to participants.

TTS Italia: meeting on "Management policies of the motor two wheels on urban areas"
On the last 15th of April, at the Department of Hydraulic, Transport and Roads (DITS) of the "La Sapienza" University of Rome, TTS Italia ordinary member, it was held the meeting of the Work Team on "Management policies of the motor two wheels on urban areas". At the meeting took part: TTS Italia Secretariat, ACI, TTS Italia founding member, Roma Servizi per la Mobilità and DITS with the aim to draw an overview of the present state of the art of the management policies of the motor two wheels on urban areas. The meeting underlined the need of strategies to develop and evaluate ITS systems for motor two wheels. As a result of the Work Team, a position paper will be elaborated and presented before summer.

At "La Sapienza" University the convention "Engineering for logistics and Transport: projects and sustainability"
On the last 5Th, at the Faculty of Engineering of "La Sapienza" University, in Rome, was held the convention "Engineering for logistics and Transport: projects and sustainability". The convention has been a good occasion to discuss the future of freight and passengers transport: from intelligent transport in urban area to the new opportunities coming from the liberalization of transport systems; from the traffic control to sustainability. In addition, the new course in Engineering for Logistics and Transport was presented. The introduction was held by Prof. Antonio Musso from the Department of Hydraulics, Transport and Roads of the University "La Sapienza", ordinary member of TTS Italia. To the following round table took part: Emilio Cera, from Atac, TTS Italia founding member; Giuseppe Naso Rappis from Elsag Datamat, TTS Italia ordinary member; Sergio Marchi, councillor responsible for tranpsort and mobility in the municipality of Rome; Gilberto Galloni, managing director FS Logistica; Paolo Ripa, Passenger Director of Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori and Andrea Stolfa, Marketing Director and Network of Alitalia.

Iveco launches its first Truck Station
Iveco, TTS Italia ordinary member, has launched its first Truck Station, a new initiative completely dedicated to the International transport. Iveco realized several specialized assistance centers, addressed to International truck transport. Among the main characteristics of the new Truck Station there are: assistance 24 hours a day; advanced diagnostic systems for the simultaneous intervention on several trucks; assistance on trailers. In particular, the assistance on trailers will made Truck Station a "one-stop" service-point able to satisfy all the needs of the trucker only with one stop. As declared by Enzo Gioachin, Senior Vice President Customer Service of Iveco, this is the first step of a Network of 400 specialized machine shop throughout Europe with the priority for Germany and France, with roughly 140 Truck Station, as the main truck traffic on long-range is there. In addition, a system called V.O.R. log (Vehicle off Road) has been created to monitor the situation of trucks at assistance points.

Mizar Automazione plays a main role in Spanish mobility once again
Mizar Automazione, TTS Italia founding member, operating in Barcelona since 1999, strengthens its partnership with TMB (Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona) within the services for the urban public transport. Mizar signed a contract, with an approximate value of 1.000.000,00, with TMB, for the evolution of the central System SAE.  The actual system in place provides the monitoring and control of fleets, the management of services, real time information for passengers and it guarantees a complete integration with the external systems. The system managed by TMB is one of the most developed in Europe: its counts 1.100 means of transport, supports 110 lines and it has a control centre with 17 operators. The implementation and integration of the systems with the new functionalities will take 3 years.

Powersoft produces FollowYou EASY
Powersoft, TTS Italia ordinary member, realized FollowYou EASY, dedicated to localization services and personal safety of children, elderly and handicapped and of whom practices sport and activities in the open air. FollowYou EASY, as the previous version FollowYou, can be applied to the localization of terrestrial and acquatic means. Queried by any authorized mobile phone, FollowYouEASY answers through a SMS with the road address and a link to a map indicating its position. In addition, through the botton SOS, it is possible to send the road coordinates to one or more mobile phones or even to Service Centre to ask an intervention.

Project Automation realizes a system for the automatic detection of accidents
At the end of 2009, Project Automation, TTS Italia ordinary member, was asked to realized a system for the automatic detection of accidents and videosurveillance for the Italian highways A28, Raccordo Conegliano – Sacile, of 4 Kilometres. The system, under realization, is composed by several CVT, part for the detection of accidents and part for the videosurveillance. In particular, there are specific monitoring points, each composed by two fixes videocameras for the accidents detection (one oriented to east and the other one oriented to west). Each signal registered by the videocameras is elaborated in real time to detect immediately critical situations.

TTS Italia Vice President is the new CEO of Infoblu
Fabio Pressi, TTS Italia Vice President of TTS Italia, on the last 13th of April, was named CEO of Infoblu, created in the 2000 and part of Autostrade per l’italia, TTS Italia founding member. TTS Italia wish him luck!

Tutor system on state roads soon
In a few months, the Tutor system will control the average speed also on some Italian state roads. Anas, TTS Italia supporting member,  has announced the implementation of the second generation Tutor system on three Italian state road: Romea, Aurelia and Domiziana, selected due to the high level of traffic. The contract awarded by Autostrade per l’Italia, TTS Italia founding member, includes the beginning of the experimentation within 180 days from the sign of the contract. The use of Tutor aims at the reduction of accidents through the collection of data related to the average speed and traffic. The test will last 540 days and at the end first evaluation will be made.
