The European Directive on intelligent transport systems: requirements for Italy and opportunities for the sector. Meeting in Rome on December 15
On August 28 came into force the European Directive on Intelligent Transport Systems. The transposition of Directive ITS, expected by February 27, 2012, represents a fundamental step in the evolution of intelligent transport systems in Europe and in Italy, as well as a unique opportunity to create the conditions to define a coordinated and shared development of this sector. In this context, TTS Italia started with the coordination of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, our founding member, work for the establishment of a National Action Plan on ITS in response to the Directive. In this context, the next 15 December the Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport, in collaboration with TTS Italia, is organizing a meeting to present the first results of the work currently underway in Italy at the national level. The event, tentatively titled "The EU Directive on intelligent transport systems: requirements for Italy and opportunities for the industry," will be the occasion for a first review and discussion of the contents and proposals prepared as well as evaluation of opportunities from the Directive, also in order to stimulate discussion and possible future contributions.

Decrease accidents, deaths and injuries on Italian roads: illustrated the ACI-ISTAT report on road accidents in 2009
Decrease accidents, deaths and injuries on Italian roads. The Report ACI – ISTAT illustrated in Rome at the Automobile Club of Italia, a founding member of TTS Italia - shows, in fact, in 2009, a decline from the previous year's claims (215,405, -1.6%% ), dead (4237, -10.3%) and injuries (307,258, -1.1%) recorded by the Police Force. July is the month "black", and Saturday the day with more deaths, the 6 p.m the most critical time. Fewer accidents occur at night but more dangerous, and weekends are at risk. Young people "under 25" are the most affected. The highest number of accidents, deaths and injuries occur on urban roads, but the most serious occurring on extra-urban. Safer highways. "If the data confirm the decrease in 2010 of 10% of the victims on the streets - said the president of the Automobile Club of Italia, Enrico Gelpi - then Italy will center the European target to halve the deaths from 2001. Today we are ranked tenth in the international classification with -40.3% compared to the EU average of -35.1. To consolidate the results is needed a synergistic effort on the educational level with the launch of an education more appropriate especially for young people, at risk three times higher of causing or suffering an accident. To this aim is dedicated the new network of driving schools ACI Ready2Go, which makes use of highly innovative tools and modules. 15% of drivers involved in accidents had less than 21 years, then less than three years of experience behind the wheel: here because the Automobile Club of Italia underlines the need to require new drivers for a course of safe driving. Our commitment to a more responsible mobility is enhanced with the new experimental project from ACI which serves the elderly, the disabled and immigrants training activities on road safety issues. However, a modernization of the road network as highlighted by the study presented today by ACI on the location of accidents is required among the most dangerous roads in the country"

Mizar Automazione in Naples with ANM
Mizar Automazione, a founding member of TTS Italia, has been working with working with ANM (Azienda Napoletana Mobility SpA), an ordinary member of TTS Italia, for over five years, continuing to provide for the maintenance of the SAE system for automatic monitoring of public transport in Naples. It is closer to the end the process that saw the passage of the entire fleet dedicated to the Local Public Transport and poles of user information, from the use of telecommunications Radio to GPRS. This was a result of effective cooperation between the two companies and the appearance of a correct interpretation of the evolutionary maintenance contract in place, which allowed not to aggravate the customer with additional costs..

The autonomous guided vehicles VisLab complete the journey from Italy to China: Workshop "From Parma to Shanghai with autonomous driving: the Overland13 expedition for Viac Project"
The four self-guided vehicles of the Artificial Vision and Intelligent Systems Laboratory (VisLab) at the University of Parma, TTS Italia incoming member, have completed their journey of 13,000 km from Italy to China, now the longest carried out without a car. The vehicles, from Italy, passed through Russia and Central Asia to reach the final destination, Shanghai. The vehicles were designed by VisLab, the laboratory of the University of Parma and consist of 12 different sensors, GPS, cameras and scanners. Just the sensors were collecting data on road, traffic and weather conditions during the journey, while the computer system of the vehicles, known as the GOLD (Generic Obstacle and Lane Detector), analyzed them by automatically setting the direction and speed. The vehicles traveled at a speed of 60 km / h to maximize battery life. The vehicles are designed so as to detect the presence of pedestrians, other vehicles and lanes as well as for planning, implementing and monitoring a travel plan. The autonomous driving system has been fueled by solar panels, and other devices in vehicles have helped to harness energy from rechargeable batteries. The project was sponsored by the European Research Council. The result will be celebrated on December 2 with the Workshop "From Parma to Shanghai with autonomous driving: the Overland13 expedition for Viac Project" The event will take place 'from 11.00 am at the Conference Centre of the University Campus of Parma (see http://vislab.it/Pages/display/how_to_reach_us). During the Workshop aims and results will be displayed (see the news featured on CNN: http://edition.cnn.com/2010/TECH/innovation/10/27/driverless.car)
