Smart mobility, ITS and MaaS essential to overcome the post-Covid challenges

 

 


An online conference by TTS Italia showed the results of the survey carried out by the Association on the strategy to adequate demand and offer in the new scenario

New mobility services, development of MaaS (Mobility as a Service), simplification, innovation, dematerialisation, apps and smart solutions to book and inform passengers, electronic ticketing and fluidification of logistics flows. ITS will be a key element to face the post-Covid challenges with a constantly evolving demand for mobility and an offer that must quickly adapt to new rules, different rhythms and sudden critical issues. This is what emerges from a survey conducted during the lockdown by TTS Italia involving its members, the TTS Italia Platform of local authorities as well as the European and extra-European ITS Associations as well on two main areas: social impacts and mobility and the role of innovation. The research, presented with an online conference held on 11 June, reveals a scenario in great evolution.
"The emergency has had a great impact - explained Olga Landolfi, Secretary General of the Association presenting the research - on the mobility sector in all modes of transport. Three major challenges emerge from the research: ensuring the safe movement of citizens and goods; finding a new balance between the demand for mobility and the supply of transport, also in the area of logistics; and developing a system approach that focuses on technological innovation for a smarter and smarter mobility".
This vision was shared by several speakers who attended the online conference.
“We need to rethink mobility as territorial cohesion - reiterated Filomena Maggino, Adviser to the Prime Minister and President of the Cabina di regia Benessere Italia - People need to move in a sustainable way from different points of view: social, economic and environmental. This is why as Cabina, we have set up a mobility table in which TTS Italia will play a very important role for the contribution in terms of technological innovation it can bring".
A holistic approach to the mobility of people and goods is also invoked by Mario Nobile, Director General for information and statistical systems of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. "We need a cultural change that leads to complete proposals for mobility - said Nobile - and this is feasible through new technologies: today we are starting projects that for temporal reasons will not be supportive of this emergency, but will serve to put at the center the user experience and go towards MaaS ".
Davide Falasconi, Chief Innovation Officer of the Italian Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digitization, also focuses on MaaS "as a useful tool to improve everyday life. As a ministry - he explained - we focused on three areas. First of all, the signing of the protocol with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for the development of the connected car in which Italy can play a key role. We then aim for the development of smart cities with the opening of the consultation for innovative contracts on which we will invest € 20 million. The tender will come shortly. Finally, the third starting point, in collaboration with Ministry for Economic Development and Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, comes from the study of the possible application of technologies already developed in different sectors. I give an example: the technologies used in the space for the transport of goods in the urban area ".
Mobility during the lockdown and in phase 2 was at the center of the intervention by Bruno Pezzuto, Head of communication and telematic systems for mobility and security, EU Projects and smart cities of the municipality of Verona and Vice President of TTS Italia. "We have noticed how the parameters of mobility have changed in cities - he said - They are still evolving and will change again with the resumption of school activity in September. There is a need for an open and shared public model to guarantee an adequate offer.”
Finally, Massimo Marciani, President of the Freight Leaders Council, spoke on logistics and the movement of goods. "We are facing a revolution - he said - the emergency is leading to the revision of the geography of production, what we call "reshoring" with the consequent revision of logistics flows. Telematics will be the enabling factor for this new logistics as it will be for urban deliveries which saw three-digit growth rates during the lockdown. ITS can help us manage this step where time will be a key element, but also simplification, sharing and transparency ".

The results of the survey in brief:

- Social impact and on mobility
Smart working will be, according to a large majority of respondents that exceeds 90%, the most obvious signal left by the Covid-19 emergency. According to the interviewees, it will characterize the activities for the next 2 years, while the use of local public transport will be in sharp decline: over 95% of the interviewees do not believe they will use it unless forced by the circumstances with direct consequences on the profits of the public transport companies. In this match the private car wins, but also the use of bicycles and scooters, the use of taxis still lukewarm. Two-wheelers are also in the lead in sharing mobility, but the real challenge is the overall rethinking of the urban mobility model in an intermodal perspective through the massive use of ITS and MaaS services (indicated by 85% of respondents). The involvement of mobility managers and the role of SUMPS that focus on interventions related to smart mobility management are growing.

- The role of technological innovation
The winning formula for collective urban transport according to 90% of the Italian sample and 95% of the international one is contained in three words: simplify, dematerialize, digitize to allow the diffusion of truly smart mobility models in a MaaS perspective. The research underlines the need to start booking services, electronic ticketing, passenger counting systems, real-time user information services, priority systems for public transport and intelligent traffic management systems throughout the country. MaaS, smart road and ITS are considered strategic by over 80% of respondents to overcome the challenge of restarting, together with the management of fundamental data for economic and political choices. Also, for logistics, the key words are digitization and dematerialisation and the sample recognizes the need to accelerate the penetration of ITS in the transport of goods. Finally, what should technology companies do? Innovating by pushing on digitalisation was the most shared response.

Member of the month

To combine decarbonisation and efficiency technologies, distributed electricity generation and digital energy with a powerful renewal of transport and mobility solutions with a green perspective. This is the goal of algoWatt, the company created by the merger between TerniEnergia, a group with a past as a leader in the Italian photovoltaic industry, listed on the stock exchange since 2008, and Softeco Sismat, a company with 40 years of experience in the ICT market.

The company, with over 200 employees located in 7 offices in Italy and investments in research and innovation for over 12% of turnover, is listed on the Mercato Telematico Azionario (MTA) of Borsa Italiana S.p.A .
After the merger, algoWatt is operating an industrial turnaround to a greentech solutions company which also pivots on sustainable mobility. It is no coincidence that in the corporate reorganization process, a Business Unit was created, Green Mobility, focused on the new urban mobility sector with software and platforms for fleet management, combined and intermodal mobility systems, management, design, installation and support for the operation of electric vehicle charging infrastructures, automation, system integration and control for vehicle access, movement and boarding services in ports, monitoring and management of road safety and critical infrastructures (bridges, road sections ...).
The BU manager is Marco Boero, engineer with a Master in Computer Science and Electronics at the University of Genoa, with over 25 years of experience in the world of research and innovation. A suitable figure, therefore, to bring the frontier technological aspects of digitization into the transport and mobility sector.

PROJECT OF THE MOMENT
The Tele-Bus project


algoWatt recently signed the contract for the development of a solution for the management of the Tele-Bus Demand Responsive Transport service operated by Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne Spółka Akcyjna (MPK S.A.), the Local Public Transport service operator based in Krakow. algoWatt was awarded the contract in the context of a European tender and the related selection process, which involved several other multinational providers. The contract provides for the development of the platform for the management of the on-demand public transport service, which includes the application for the planning, optimization and execution of the service by the operator, the app dedicated to the driver for the management of the trips and that for booking the service by individual users. The contract has a duration of 30 months, of which 6 months for development and 24 months of operational maintenance for which algoWatt will make use of a local partner.
The solution that will be provided to MPK is based on the PersonalBus© platform, developed over the years by algoWatt and successfully used by multiple operators in Italy. Renewed with the latest technologies, PersonalBus© is offered on a cloud infrastructure according to a Software-as-a-Service model and, thanks to a totally renewed planning and optimization algorithm, it allows a completely automated management of the user's request: from request processing to trip assignment, route adaptation and the update of the vehicle’s service plan. By using an App, the can user book a travel between the desired origin and destination and automatically obtains one or more travel offers from which he can choose the solution that best suits his or her needs. A quick solution without the need for intervention by the operator of a call centre or a service control centre. Together with the ability to manage multiple service models with an increasing degree of flexibility - starting from fixed lines accessible on reservation and scaling up to fixed lines with deviations on demand, to completely flexible on-demand services in an area, on-demand services as feeders for high capacity lines, door-to-door services and others - PersonalBus© allows delivering solutions that are appropriate to the needs of transformation and improvement of the service of the various mobility service providers.
The Tele-Bus project in Poland will field all the latest components and features of the PersonalBus© system for the management of on-demand services in low demand areas and the provision of accessible and efficient feeder services for the first / last mile mobility connecting to major Local Public Transport lines to and from the city centre. In this sense, it represents an excellent opportunity for an integration of PersonalBus© technology within the LPT system of Krakow area, which includes, in addition to an efficient network of lines served by buses, a public transport network served by trams among the largest and most modern in Europe.

How is the algoWatt offer organized for ever smarter and greener mobility, capable of facing today's challenges?

Our market offer includes a portfolio of solutions for the digitization and efficient management of processes and services for sustainable mobility of people and goods. We help transport operators and service providers to increase accessibility, efficiency, physical and IT security, and the sustainability of the services they offer to users. Our offer of enabling technologies is twofold, based on consolidated proprietary platforms continuously renewed in years of applications in the mobility market: on the one hand, solutions for the end-to-end management of vehicle fleets and related processes, on the other, systems for the automation, monitoring and control of the processes for the governance of mobility flows. These are solutions that combine cloud services, modelling and optimisation algorithms, machine learning, sensors and IoT methodologies. Based on our enabling platforms, we offer "vertical" solutions and products for specific processes and services. These include solutions for the management of traditional and demand-responsive collective transport, ride sharing services, "last mile" logistics services, the aggregation and distribution of infomobility services for users, integrating information services, intermodal travel planning, booking and payment of the travel solution. On top we add our offer for electric mobility, which sees us present from the beginning of the development of this sector in Italy. Today we offer services ranging from a digital platform for the management of infrastructure and electric vehicles charging processes, to Application Maintenance services and support for the operational management of the charging infrastructure, up to expertise for the design and installation of a network of charging units.

What are your top solutions for the sustainable mobility of people, in a profoundly changed and still changing scenario due to unexpected and difficult to manage events such as the Covid-19 pandemic?

We believe our solution for the management of collective demand-responsive transport, the PersonalBus© platform, a highly successful product with over 50 installations for public and private operators of mobility services, is today more relevant than ever. PersonalBus© allows you to efficiently create and manage highly customizable mobility services, due to the intrinsic ability to dynamically adapt the offer to the actual needs of the user, and at the same time to respond to the needs of the operator to guarantee transport controlled access, capable of meeting the safety and distance objectives that situations such as post-Covid scenarios impose. Our on-demand mobility product has been completely renewed over the years. Today, also due to the situation that has arisen, we are experiencing a growing interest not only by the operators and service providers of collective mobility services, who are asking us to make their service offer flexible, but also by fleet managers and corporate Mobility Managers for efficient management of their fleets and home-work mobility, or finally by area Mobility Managers with responsibility for multiple entities. These roles, as we know, have received greater attention and a significant regulatory impulse in the context of the Relaunch Decree of the Italian government and this also makes us confident about a significant expansion of the market potential of our solution.

What are the main lines of development for sustainable mobility that you plan to tackle in the short and medium term?

We consider the development of Mobility-as-a-Service models as a natural evolution of our offer. We have just completed the coordination of IMOVE, one of the three lighthouse projects launched by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 program to promote, validate and assess the development of organizational models, business models and enabling technologies for the expansion of MaaS in Europe. Thanks to the project, we were able to experiment and evaluate solutions for MaaS in important capitals and European cities such as Berlin, Madrid, Manchester, Gothenburg and Turin.
This experience, combined with our consolidated experience in solutions for on-demand and sharing mobility, has allowed us to develop our own solution that we believe is very competitive today: the eMaaS platform. Taking advantage of the interoperability of our technological components for the management of mobility services, the eMaaS platform has been developed according to the "platform of platforms" paradigm and is able to offer a modular, open and scalable solution for effective management of different transport components, easily adaptable to the needs of operators and users of mobility services. It operates in real time and can include any combination of transport for the route requested by the user, including the use of cars, bicycles, trains, subways, buses, buses on demand, taxis. In addition, it provides a bouquet of complete services to the consumer, ranging from location-based information services, to travel planning, booking and payments. Thanks to the European experience and the development of this technology, we are fully ready to face the new challenges posed by the emerging segment of Mobility-as-a-Service.

Tattile Inspector software tool for license plate & traffic flow analysis

 

Camera hardware from Tattile has become famous in the ITS sector for their robustness and accuracy in the most different traffic monitoring scenarios ranging from toll collection on highways to traffic monitoring in dense city areas. In a logical step towards further evaluating the data generated by Tattile cameras the company now introduces the versatile software tool Tattile Inspector which enables to aggregate and analyze the data of all connected cameras in a given area.

 


As web-based back office software tool the Tattile Inspector can store photos and license plate numbers recognized by a given number of connected cameras in a database. The software then collects and analyzes the pictures taken and can generate a full transit analysis down to specific vehicles which were identified by number plate and other features such a vehicle brand, color, and class. Out of this the system can deliver reports on previously defined parameters. These reports can even be sent by SMS or Email enabling rapid action by traffic authorities, e.g. when a vehicle is blacklisted as reported stolen or involved in a crime.
Through several plug-in options the Inspector database search can be adjusted to specific needs: through filtering based on parameters such as the car segment, brand, model, or country a car profiling can be performed. This even goes beyond the vehicle itself and includes the filtering and matching of a preload list of known faces with the faces detected on the pictures taken from drivers.
The Tattile Inspector software can also be connected to the Italian SCNTT (Sistema Centralizzato Nazionale per Transiti e Targhe). Italian number plates can continuously be checked for valid insurance, revision date and province registration. Inspector also provides VMS integration in Milestone and Arteco.
Even additional environment information can be added on whether conditions and air pollution status if respective devices are connected to the cameras installed. Last but not least, the software also enables grouping of cameras to different accounts, in order to manage different users on the same Inspector installation.
Overall, the new Tattile Inspector software gives users a maximum flexibility to observe and run reports of the traffic flow in a designated area for various purposes.

Project of the month

FENIX

FENIX (European Federated Network of Information eXchange in LogistiX) is a project Co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility of the European Union, with a duration of three years (April 2019 – March 2022).
FENIX, coordinated at international level by ERTICO, involves 43 beneficiaries, 23 implementing bodies, 37 affiliated entities and it is developed in 11 pilot sites in 9 Member States and covers 9 TEN-T corridors.
The main goal of FENIX is to develop the first European federated architecture for data sharing serving the European logistics community of shippers, logistics service providers, mobility infrastructure providers, cities, and authorities in order to offer interoperability among any individual existing and future platforms.
FENIX does not strive to develop a new centralised solution with its own specific functionalities and does not create a platform. FENIX will create a federation of IT platforms in order to be able to deliver “Transport & Logistics digital corridor information systems" between stakeholders in the supply chain and authorities. The FENIX federation involves the main actors of mobility and logistics operating on the TEN-T corridors by land, water and air, throughout the European territory. Moreover, FENIX will capitalise the main outputs of AELOX and SELIS projects/platforms.
The idea of FENIX comes from the work and recommendations of the European Commission’s Digital Transport and Logistic Forum (DTLF) to create a viable and valid federative network of platforms as enabler for Business to Administration (B2A) and Business to Business (B2B) data exchange and sharing by transport and logistics operators.

FENIX main activities are:
- To establish a federated network of transport and logistics actors across Europe, enabling sharing of information and services needed to optimise TEN-T (Activity2 & Activity3)
- To demonstrate the operational feasibility and benefits through the organised national pilots –focus on testing the achieved interoperability capabilities (Activity 4)
- To set up the EU corridor community building programme and to promote the benefits to the participants in terms of reduced costs and GHG emissions (Activity5 & Activity6).
The Italian Ministry of Infrastructures and Transport (MIT) coordinates, at national level, the participation of Italy in FENIX, that involves 21 implementing bodies in two pilots sites:


- The Trieste pilot site (Mediterranean and Baltic-Adriatic Corridors as well as the Motorway of the Sea of South-East), coordinated by Polytechnic of Bari that will contribute to the federation IT platform with AEOLIX platform developed within the H2020 project, of which Trieste has already been Living Lab.
In Trieste pilot site, the following Use Cases have been selected: Expected time of arrival (ETA), Reduction of CO2 & NOx emission, Multimodal route planning, Track & trace vehicle/shipment, TM2.0 for multimodality, Parking booking service, B2A, A2B services like Customs, Dangerous goods/eCall EGNOS/Galileo, Carrier certification & eCMR testing.
This pilot site involves the following national implementing bodies designed by MIT: Polytechnic of Bari, Autovie Venete, Pluservice, Swarco Mizar, Codognotto, Interporto of Trieste, Port Network Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, Adria Intermodale, Info.era, Matras Logistica and DBA Pro.


- The Genoa/Milan pilot site (the Italian Rhine Alpine pilot site – Dynamic Synchromodal Logistic Modules), coordinated by University of Modena and Reggio Emilia in collaboration with Circle, to provide several tools to optimise the planning and the real-time operation of the maritime, aerial, logistics and transport operators of the Italian northwest regions. The aims are to achieve effective and sustainable use of the whole northwest infrastructure (in the three regions of Liguria, Piedmont and Lombardy). For Liguria Region, in particular, the pilot needs to cope with the actual infrastructural deficit due to the collapse of the Morandi bridge.
The Italian Rhine Alpine pilot site will deal with several use cases created specifically for the two realities in which they will be developed, that are: Expected Time of arrival (Milan); Reduction of CO2 & NOx emission (Milan); Dangerous goods transportation monitoring (Milan); B2A/A2B services like Customs (Milan); Safety and eCustom (Milan); Digital synchro modal information dashboard (Genoa); Synchro modality (Genoa); Real time Road optimisation in ports (Genoa); Real time Rail optimisation in ports (Genoa); FENIX scale-up and transferability plan.
This pilot site involves the following implementing bodies designed by MIT: University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Circle, SEA Milan Airports, University of Genoa, Port Authority of the Eastern Liguria Sea, Tarros, Ignazio Messina Terminal (IMT), Links Foundation (LINKS) and Crosstec.
In FENIX, TTS Italia acts as implementing body to support the MIT in the management of national activities.

algoWatt: contract awarded in Poland for the provision of a
PersonalBus app for the management of flexible transport services

algoWatt, GreenTech Solutions company listed on Borsa Italiana's electronic stock exchange (MTA) announces to have signed the contract for the development of a solution for the management of the flexible on-demand Tele-Bus service operated by Miejskie Przedsiębiorstwo Komunikacyjne Spółka Akcyjna (MPK S.A.), a public transport operator based in Krakow (PL). algoWatt awarded the contract in a European tender and related selection process involving several other multinational providers.
The contract provides for the development of the platform for the management of the DRT public transport service, which includes the application for the planning, optimization and execution of the service by the operator, the app dedicated to the driver for the management of the trips and the app for the booking of the service by customers. The solution that will be provided to MPK is based on the PersonalBus platform, developed over the years by algoWatt, successfully used by many operators in Italy and recently renewed with the latest technologies.
The contract has a duration of 30 months of which 6 months for development and 24 months of operational maintenance for which algoWatt will use local operators.
MPK is one of the largest public transport operators in Poland and the choice of the solution implemented by algoWatt demonstrates the company's leadership in the flexible mobility sector, providing a solid reference for a possible development of the foreign market.

Iarnród Éireann-Irish Rail selects Indra for 32 million euros contract to develop traffic management system for new national train control centre
Indra, TTS Italia ordinary member, has been awarded a contract for 32 million euros by Iarnród Éireann-Irish Rail, the operator of the Irish rail system, to develop a new train control centre in Dublin with the capacity to manage the 2,400 km network that transported 50.3million passengers  in 2019.
The contract, was awarded after an international public tender in competition. It includes the design, supply, installation and commissioning of a fully integrated rail traffic management system (TMS) and control equipment, as well as its maintenance for 15 years, with the possibility of extending it to 20 years. It also includes training facilities, such as a signalling simulator, as well as providing a backup control centre in a secondary location.
Indra will equip the new rail control centre with an integrated and highly automated control system, based on its Mova Traffic line of solutions. Among other advantages, this advanced technology will enable management tasks to be centralized, providing more efficiency and safety while improving passenger service and information, incident resolution procedures and maintenance. The new centre will replace the existing one, also located in the Irish capital, which has different disaggregated control systems. The new centre will have the capacity to control the majority of signalling systems on the network and those that may be installed in future projects. 
Thanks to the solution, Indra is going to develop, which will integrate regulation systems, an automatic router, communications, network management, a control panel and remote monitoring. Train circulation will be optimized, reducing potential conflicts and errors by providing operators with a single holistic interface and making information easily accessible to all stakeholders. Access to the railway for maintenance work and incident control will improve, enabling fast and efficient resolutions.
Indra Mova Traffic's rail traffic management solution is prepared to incorporate digital big data, artificial intelligence and the IoT. These technologies make it possible to adapt transportation to actual demand, improve the passenger experience, facilitate maintenance, and more intelligent, safe, sustainable, efficient, collaborative and open mobility.
With this new contract in Europe, Indra strengthens its position in the rail sector where it has successfully implemented its state-of-the-art technology solutions in countries such as the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Mexico, Colombia, China, India and Malaysia, among others.
Indra has been working in Ireland for more than 15 years in the transportation market, with important projects such as; the Dublin Port Tunnel and many of the toll roads around the country. The new project assures that Indra will continue working in Ireland for at least another 20 years.
With this new project in Ireland, Indra's Rail TMS system secures its position as a worldwide leader with the most advanced rail traffic management platform currently in operation.
The system already controls more than 3,000 km of high-speed rail in Spain, 500 km of the Mecca-Medina high-speed railway, almost 2,000 km of the Turkish high-speed network and other networks of different characteristics in countries such as Lithuania, Malaysia, Colombia, Morocco and Spain.
Indra's railway traffic management technology is part of Mova Traffic, the transportation solutions block which enables comprehensive management and control of multimodal mobility, maximized by the addition of technologies such as big data, artificial intelligence and the IoT. LeasePlan and Targa Telematics together for Corporate Car Sharing, the corporate mobility solution for the recovery of economic activities
One of the issues that has emerged during this phase of reopening economic activities is related to the mobility of company employees and collaborators.
The choice of Corporate Car Sharing in fact, in addition to representing a mobility solution for company employees in this complex travel phase, optimizes management of the company car fleet, providing monitoring of vehicle usage and mileage, reducing fleet management costs and CO2 emissions.
Application technologies from Targa Telematics, TTS Italia founding member, allow LeasePlan to offer a user-friendly mobility solution for the driver and to support the activities of fleet and mobility managers, engaged, even more so in this post-Covid phase, in managing the travel of their colleagues in safely. Corporate Car Sharing, in fact, is aimed at a corporate community, monitored from a health point of view according to the company policies imposed by ministerial decrees, and represents a valid alternative to public transport.
LeasePlan turned to the expertise of Targa Telematics for its Corporate Car Sharing solution, including a web portal and an App dedicated to the driver, through which it is possible to book the vehicle, indicating the time, date and place of pick-up, contact the help-desk available 24/7 to solve any problems, view the scheduled trips, see the history of bookings made and receive notifications. Moreover, the keyless technology adopted makes it possible to offer an easy-to-use service, accessible at all times and without the need for direct contact between users, which is important in this particular period.

Targa Telematics is selected as FCA technology partner for fleet management services
Targa Telematics, TTS Italia founding member, and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles have signed a multi-year agreement for fleet management solutions for business customers in the European market. The initiative covers all FCA connected models in the EMEA area.
A simple, intuitive and totally remotely accessible interface; absolute control over activities, service status, maintenance and assistance of each vehicle. All this in real time, without moving from the office:
These are just some of the potential features of the digital solutions that Targa Telematics has integrated in the vehicles that FCA supplies to corporate fleets in the EMEA area, as part of a multi-year partnership agreement.
The objectives are multiple: going beyond the mere installation of a black box capable of recording and transmitting vehicle data and creating an actual technological architecture capable of communicating with individual vehicles, progressively integrating services and solutions aimed at making their management and maintenance more effective and efficient, and ensuring a better user experience, for both the driver as well as the fleet manager.
Since 2018, Targa Telematics has been providing FCA with technological solutions for fleet monitoring for both the B2C and B2B markets (with the“Mopar® Connect” and “Mopar® Connect Fleet” projects), thus providing a digital platform to enable fleet managers and FCA car owners to monitor vehicle usage status in real time, receive alerts for possible theft or tampering and improve vehicle management, as well as the driving experience and driver safety.

With this new agreement, the collaboration with FCA and the innovative content of the solution are further strengthened with the creation of the new “My Fleet Manager Portal”. Indeed, Targa Telematics directly integrates its services with the “Uconnect Services”, “Alfa Connect Services” and “Mopar Connect” solutions already predisposed by FCA or installed in the after-market on an increasing number of vehicles, in order to offer a suite of Fleet Management applications for Corporate fleets or Small Medium Enterprises. Targa Telematics' digital platform, based on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Big Data, dialogues with vehicles, collecting and processing the data of the individual vehicle, with the result of generating profitability and security for business customers using FCA and other vehicles in their fleets.
A key feature of the new "My Fleet Manager" solution will be the specific electric capabilities of the car portal to be launched during the current year, for which connectivity will be a key enabler: this market, in fact, needs "real-time" information and communications that only a connected car can provide, for example by allowing the fleet manager to:
●Check the level and status of vehicle charging
●Start the charging session remotely
●Plan charging slots having an overview of the entire fleet
●Set the departure time of vehicles and ensure that drivers find them at a comfortable temperature (pre-conditioning).

Targa Telematics named in a recent Gartner report
Targa Telematics, TTS Italia founding member, was named in the Gartner report “Market Trends: Monetizing Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Data by analysts Jonathan Davenport, Pedro Pacheco, Alan Priestley.
In the report Gartner estimates that, “through 2025 automakers will collect about 1 GB of sensor data per month from each SAE Level 2 vehicle to support ongoing improvements to the vehicle’s perception algorithms.” It further mentions that, “by 2025, production autonomous vehicles (SAE Levels 3-5) will analyze more than 4 TB of sensor data per hour but upload less than 1% of that data to the cloud.”
The potential of Targa Telematics’ platform is represented by the capabilities of data acquisition and processing of any corporate organizational process in the IoT sector. Uirnet: Lorenzo Cardo is the new President
On 1 June, Uirnet S.p.A., TTS Italia ordinary member, appointed the new Board of Directors for the 2020-2023 three-year period which will be chaired by Lorenzo Cardo.
The Shareholders' Meeting thus decided to give a "new course" to face with renewed energy the challenges facing the company, called to play an increasingly significant role in the development of logistics in Italy.
With a quorum greater than 85% of the shareholders, the Assembly also established the reduction of the members of the governance body which is composed today of three members.
Professor Rodolfo De Dominicis remains within the company going to fill the role of General Manager.

Vehicle Telematics Leaders Geotab and Webfleet Solutions Join Forces to Launch New Commercial Mobility Recovery Dashboard
Webfleet Solutions and Geotab, TTS Italia ordinary members, the global leaders in connected transportation, mobility and telematics, announced the launch of the Commercial Mobility Recovery Dashboard. The dashboard analyzes data from more than 3 million connected vehicles around the world to help visualize the impact of COVID-19 on commercial vehicle activity and support strategic recovery efforts. By combining their data analytics, the two companies aim to offer a greater level of insight that can help empower and inform decision making of businesses and governments as they continue to navigate the effects of COVID-19.

Examining commercial vehicle activity across countries in Europe and North America, including the USA, Germany and the UK, the dashboard provides insight into the movement of essential commercial vehicles throughout the two continents. Additionally, users can leverage the dashboard to understand how specific industries have been impacted, such as construction, business services and transport logistics. Commercial transportation activity is measured weekly against pre-COVID-19 baseline levels to provide an indicator of the state of the industry.

According to the Commercial Mobility Recovery Dashboard, commercial vehicle activity in Europe dropped by as much as 36% since the beginning of the pandemic, whereas North American commercial vehicle activity only dropped by 20% at its lowest point. At launch, the dashboard depicts that last week, excluding holidays, commercial vehicle activity in Europe (May 18 - 20) reached 86% of its normal activity levels while respectively, commercial vehicle activity in North America (May 19 - 22) was operating at 90%. Other key insights include:
Faster recovery rates in Europe, with commercial vehicle activity increasing more rapidly from its lowest point compared to North America.
A steady increase in commercial vehicle activity in Europe, excluding weekends and holidays, with an increase of 4.6% in commercial vehicle activity as determined by examining activity levels from May 11-15 to May 18-20.
An increase in North American commercial vehicle activity of 2.2% over the same two-week period, excluding weekends and bank holidays.
Since the beginning of May, fleet activity within the Construction and Freight Transportation industries are operating at or above the pre-pandemic baseline in Canada while fleet activity in these same industries in the U.S. has only begun to reach baseline levels over the past week.

Smarter Italy programme – TTS Italia launches a series of webinars with Cities
The Smarter Italy program has recently been launched.
The Smarter Italy program, of the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), of the Ministry of University and Research (MIUR) and of the Ministry for Technological Innovation and Digitization (MID) - Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, implemented by the Agency for Digital Italy, aims to accelerate the growth of the country through the use of innovative contracts.
The initial financial envelope, made available by the MISE, is 50 million euros, of which 20 million are earmarked for Smart Mobility. The official presentation of the Smarter Italy program took place on 15 June and the market consultation phase was launched. In light of this important opportunity, TTS Italia considers it essential to feed the dialogue between supply and demand, in order to bring out the actual needs of the cities.
Therefore, in July, a series of webinars organised by TTS Italia in collaboration with AGID (Agency for Digital Italy) will take place involving the cities directly affected by the program.
The first webinar, 2 July, with the City of Milan.
The webinars are focused on the topics related to the Smart Mobility sector:
1: Innovative predictive / adaptive solution for Smart Mobility;
2: Innovative solutions for improving the mobility of goods;
3: Innovative solutions for the improvement of sustainable mobility in areas with weak demand;

The collaboration between TTS Italia and Strade & Autostrade magazine continues. On the issue n ° 141 May / June 2020, our article on Covid-19 and logistics.
The Covid-19 emergency has clearly shown the central role of logistics for the economy and life of the country. A "discovery" that has become part of the leap forward that everyone - citizens, students, workers and businesses - they had to move towards technology, digital and innovation. Within a few days, more than half of Italians faced smart working, distance learning, while many entrepreneurial realities have resorted to technology to increase the dose of resilience during the lockdown and continue to provide the service. Among these, the transportation of goods.
